Marine Oil Gauging Tape Stainless Steel Sounding Tape
IMPA Code: 650871, 650872, 650873
Overview:
The Sounding tape is also called ullage, made of stainless steel with a chromed brass drawing weight attached.
Metric or inch graduated tapes are available. the tapes are mounted to a strong frame with a plastic handle. the tape's length up to 50 meters and also available upon request.
The Oil Gauging tape is a manual measuring instrument used to determine the liquid level in fuel tanks, lubricating oil tanks, cargo holds (on tankers), ballast tanks, and other liquid compartments onboard vessels.
Feature:
A flexible steel band tape, anti corrosion and abrasion;
Sounding Bob is made of brass / non-sparking material for safety.
Reel & Handle: A hand-cranked reel for winding/unwinding the tape, often with a brake or lock mechanism.
| IMPA Code | Tape LENGTH Metric |

| 650873 | 30 |
How It Works:
The tape is lowered vertically through the tank’s sounding pipe until the bobweight touches the tank bottom (or datum plate). It is then immediately retrieved. The interface between the wetted and dry sections of the tape indicates the ullage (distance from liquid surface to reference point) or sounding (depth of liquid). Using the vessel’s calibrated tank capacity table, the observed depth/ullage is converted into volume and then into mass using the liquid’s density.
